The Amari Watergate is located opposite the Platinum Mall in Pratunam zone, so is popular with women for clothes shopping, and with men for gadgets and electronics shopping and window-shopping.
The five restaurants serve international, Italian, Thai, Chinese and steak house cuisine. The huge pool is surrounded by enough loungers, and located next to a poolside bar serving drinks and light lunches. The award-winning Siva spa is a few steps away.
The spa's contemporary design works better than most to create a spacious feeling where relaxation is aided by the scent of lenongrass which pervades the premises. A lotus pond is subtly back-lit, while numerous candles cast a wam glow that enhances the softly-lit and serene atmosphere, to which an arresting night-time touch is provided by the illuminated palm trees outside.
The Grappino is maybe the pick of the restaurants, and provides a startling backdrop for dinner - the entire side of the next door Platinum shopping mall is lit of by a changing mosaic of tiny lights.
Why did they call it the Watergate? Surely the reason for President Nixon's downfall (the burglary he sanctioned at Washington's Watergate hotel) must have been known to someone on the design team. As par normal in the land of take-it-easy, it seems nobody bothered to check out the name for negative connotations. Oh well, at least Thai people live with smiles on their faces, unlike most Westerners.
Accommodation
All the rooms in the Amari Watergate are comfortably furnished and tastefully decorated in a contemporary style that will upset nobody. They are well equipped, in immaculate condition, and spotlessly clean.
Deluxe Room 42 sqm
These rooms are located on the 10th to 20 floor, and offer either a pool or garden view, with the garden view being the best side to also see the night-time city lights. These sizable, very comfortable rooms offer one of the most affordable options in Bangkok for those who want to stay in a top-class hotel.
Grand Deluxe
These are the same as the Deluxe rooms, but built on the 21st to the 29th floors. They offer better views than the Deluxe rooms.
Corner Suite 72 sqm
These are the units to go for in this hotel, as they offer amazing value for money in one of Bangkok's best-located and equipped hotels. If you book two months in advance, you only have to pay for a Deluxe room, and you get an automatic upgrade to one of these superb corner suites - this phenomonal deal make these pretty unbeatable for people who can afford about THB THB 5,000 a night. These huge suites are equipped with not one, but two 42-inch TVs, one in the living room and one in the bedroom. This means that parents can accommodate up to two children in the living room (one on the large sofa, which can be made up as a bed for children under 12), but not have to put up with kids' TV, and can get night-time privacy for a bit of romance.
Regarding romance, these suites are also popular with honeymooners, as they are such good value and offer such a range of different spots to get intimate - the bed, the sofa, the shower and the bath. Also popular with honeymooners, and everybody else except the uber-rich, are the prices with which a corner suite can be booked in this hotel.
The Corner suites are located on the 10th to 29th floors, high floors can be requested but not guaranteed. The western corner of the building offers the best views, so we recommend a Corner Suite in this corner & can request one of these better suites for you.
Executive Room 42 sqm
These rooms offer a more modern look than the Deluxe rooms, and also membership of the Club lounge. The Club lounge offers complimentary cocktails from 5 to 7 pm, when you can drink as much as you like. Most people prefer to save money on the room rate by booking a Deluxe room with an automatic upgrade, and drink more slowly elsewhere.
Executive Suite 97 sqm
These enormous suites have beautifully wood-panelled walls and were recently renovated. Few visitors will find it worthwhile booking an Executive Suite when the next unit down in price, a Corner suite, is so incerdibly affordable
