The Web's Best Guide to Thai Kayaking
Introduction
In a land of heart-stopping seascapes, it's hard to select the best kayaking. |
When judged by wealth of sites, though, Thailand's most amazing adventure kayaking is in the Andaman Sea.
Petroglyphs, spectacular karst scenery (limestone
rock-faces rising vertically out of the sea), stunningly beautiful lagoons,
hongs (hollow islands), squeaky-clean beaches, tropical wildlife, coral reefs and stilted Thai
fishing villages await you. |
The world-famous kayaking sites Koh Panek and James Bond Island, in Phang Nga Bay between Phuket and Krabi, are sadly no longer recommended during high season, as they have been over-run by day-trippers from Phuket. |
It is not uncommon to see over 100 kayaks at Koh Panek during high season. Most kayakers prefer a more intimate encounter with nature. |
A much more peacefull kayaking experience is offered by the day-trips available from little-known Koh Yao Noi island , a lovely and tranquil island in the middle of Phang Nga Bay. |
We can offer you kayaking tours from Koh Yao Noi only available through this website, to islands as yet undiscovered by the Phuket tour companies. |
Usually, our Koh Yao Noi kayakers have their kayaking destinations to themselves. |
Ao Nang, located in Krabi Province on the eastern edge of Phang Nga Bay, is the best place from which to explore the fabulous kayaking sites on the northern Krabi coastline, plus Railay, possibly still the most beautiful, whilst now problematic, beach destination in Thailand.
Ang Thong Marine Park is a group of islands near Koh Samui in the Gulf of Thailand. Ang Thong is spectacularly beautiful, but is not reccommended in the high season, due to overcrowding.
Koh Lao Liang is a highly reccommended eco-resort in the southern part of the Andaman Sea, just north of the border with Malaysia.
Thailand's best inland canoeing and rafting is at Khao Sok National Park, 2 hours north of Phuket. |
For an unforgettable trip, spend a day canoeing down the Khao Sok river, then one night staying in a bungalow floating on Cheow Larn lake, whilst exploring the lake by canoe and raft. |
Koh Yao Noi Kayaking
Koh Yao Noi is a beautiful, friendly and little-known destination situated in the middle of Phang Nga Bay between Phuket and Krabi. Its location means that kayakers can visit day-trip sites which are too far to reach from Phuket, and are therefore uncrowded - often our kayakers will have the sites all to themselves. This is a big contrast with the over-run Koh Panek and James Bond sites accessible by day-trip from Phuket, which are too crowded during high season for most peoples' enjoyment. Koh Yao Noi is the new kayaking destination, the best-kept secret in Thai kayaking, and should not be missed. Click on one of the following tours for more information:
Ao Nang Kayaking
Ao Nang is situated on the eastern edge of Phang Nga Bay and is an ideal base from which to explore three great nearby kayaking sites. As well as being a great kayaking base, Ao Nang offers excellent accommodation, amenities and the most diverse range of sporting and soft adventure day-trips in southern Thailand. Koh Lao Liang Kayaking
Koh Lao Liang is a recently opened eco-resort located in the Andaman Sea just north of the Malaysian border. For most travellers it is a way better destination than the famous nearby island of Koh Lipe just to the south, which has turned into a party destination, where only those after a party are advised to head. Koh Lao Liang is pristine and uncrowded, even in peak season, and is highly recommended. Click here for kayaking from Koh Lao Liang. A new option available for the 2009/2010 high season is kayak fishing, contact us for details.
Ang Thong Marine Park Kayaking
The gorgeous Ang Thong Marine Park offers the Gulf of Thailand's best kayaking, but is unfortunately too crowded in high season to be recommended.
Khao Sok Kayaking & Rafting
Khao Sok National Park is by a mile southern Thailand's best inland destination, and offers unique canoeing and rafting experiences. After a soft canoeing trip down the Khao Sok river, we highly reccommend the visitor to explore nearby Cheow Larn lake by canoe and raft, while staying in a bungalow floating on the lake.
