The Haleeva is currently (as at Jan 2010) Ao Nang's best bet for a budget hotel with a pool which is fairly near the beach. It is located a kilometre from the beach, or a 2 minute, THB 30 tuk tuk ride away. Many visitors choose this resort as it has comfortable rooms and a pool, at a much lower price than a hotel nearer the beach. The Deluxe rooms are a brilliant choice for families with small children.
The visitor's first impression on arriving at the Haleeva is of a rather modest guest house, as the lobby is inexpensively furnished and decorated.
The Haleeva is, however, one of those places that reward further inspection - its not inconsiderable charms only become apparent when the visitor ventures beyond the unassuming lobby and into the pool area at the back of the resort.
Jungle foliage surrounds the attractive pool, and coconut plams sway majestically against a magnificent backdrop of karst rock faces. Dappled sunlight filters through the trees and shades the pool loungers, of which there are a sufficient number, exccept in peak season, when it is advisable to be up early if you want to be assured of a lounger.
The next surprise the resort delivers is the quality of the rooms, considering their relative affordability. Whilst not the most lavishly decorated of units, they are immaculately presented, spotlessly clean and very comfortable.
Another plus of this hotel is its proximity to several cosy and inexpensive bars and Thai restaurants.
Accommodation
Superior Rooms
These immaculate rooms are some of Ao Nang's best value options for those who like a pool and to be at least fairly close to the beach. The large beds are comfortable and well presented, as are the comfortable day-beds, although it's rather a shame that these are upholstered in a plastic-like fabric. While nothing about these rooms will wow the visitor, nobody will complain about the value for money they offer.
The double rooms are all at the front of the hotel, whereas the twins are all at the back and have great mountain views, particularly from the upper floors. Couples who are ligh sleepers are reccommended to avoid traffic noise by taking a twin at the back of the hotel, and then pushing the beds together.
Grand Superior Rooms
These rooms are larger than the Superior rooms, but an odd, non-rectangular shape. There is not much point in paying extra and taking one of these rooms, as the only significant extra facility offered is a balcony, which is rather small. The Superior rooms are almost as good, and cheaper.
Deluxe Rooms
These large suites are well-equipped with a jacuzzi on the terrace, a lounge area, an oversized bed and a large bathroom. The decor is somewhat uninspiring. There is a second double bed in the lounge area. The price quoted in the table below includes doubel occupancy. If one person sleeps in the second bed, one extra bed charge applies. If two people sleep in the second bed, two extra bed charges applies. The extra bed charge includes breakfast for the extra person of persons
This is currently Ao Nang's best accommodation option for families with small children who don't have lots of money to spend, but want a pool. It is particularly good when the children can walk the 1 km to the beach, but if they can't, it's only a THB 30 or 40 ride away.
