Floating Market, Bangkok
There are several floating markets near Bangkok, of which the two most important are these two:
- The Damnoen Saduak market, which is about 100 kms southwest of the city. This has now degenerated into a tourist trap and is to be avoided. There are more cameras around than canteloupes, it's no fun, give it a miss. Also, to go there, you have to get up very early. While a crack-of-dawn start is sometimes justifiable, this market no longer is worth the trouble.
- The Amphawa Floating Market is a much better choice. Rather than being inundated with camera-clicking tourists, this is completely the opposite - you will hardly see any other Westerners here. It is open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from mid-day to 8pm. It is located a 90 minute taxi ride each way. Click here for more info. If you would like to take a trip to this market we can lay on a private taxi and guide for you for THB 5,000, contact us to book.
