Koh Lanta Diving & Snorkelling
Introduction
The diving and snorkelling are exceptionally good to the south of Koh Lanta. There’s a great variety of walls, fringing reefs, caves and a wreck to explore around the offshore islands, islets and rocks. |
Marine life is abundant, with a healthy cross-section of reef species and pelagics. Only the local operators and a few from Krabi, Koh Phi Phi and Phuket currently visit these sites, so they remain fairly uncrowded. |

Hin Daeng and Hin Muang are the area's headline dive sites, and are world-class. Along with the Similan Island, they rank as Thailand's best dive sites. Two years ago there was an environmental disaster at Hin Muang. |
Cyanide fishing killed much of the coral and resulted in a murky red underwater cloud which ruined the visibility. The red clouds have now dispersed and, whilst the coral at Hin Muang will take a few years to recover, the reef is as popular as ever with the large pelagics, including the whale sharks for which it is best known. |

The only outcrops in a large area of open sea, the bottom at Hin Daeng is formed of underwater cliffs and plateaux which are ideal for supporting an astonishingly rich variety of marine species. This area has one of the highest incidences of whale shark sightings in the world. |
Koh Rok is currently Thailand's number two snorkelling site, only eclipsed by the Surin Islands. |

Koh Ha is an adrenaline-rush dive site. Its underwater 'cathedral' is cavernous, and the swim-though exit is one sure to get every diver's blood pumping. It also has great snorkelling and is the best destination for mixed groups of snorkellers and divers. |
