Vipa Resort is located about 3km outside Ao Nang. It is possible to go back and forth on tuk tuks, but most people who stay here rent a small motorbike. If you are comfortable on a bike then there is little disadvantage about being further from the beach – and a massive financial incentive, as the rooms are so much cheaper. Novice riders should not learn to ride a motorbike in Ao Nang, it is not the best place to do so.
Situated near the base of the towering lime stone cliffs that separate Ao Nang from the Railay peninsula, the view here is absolutely stunning. The swimming pool in this hotel is a pleasantly shady spot to enjoy the view. The restaurant is attractively constructed from natural materials and serves good food at reasonable prices. The room types are very and basic here. There are fan rooms and air conditioned rooms.
Accommodation
Bamboo
The fan bungalows are slightly smelly little huts made from wood and bamboo. There is a deck area for guests to relax on.
Air-con
These come in 2 flavours at the same price. There are the grotty old rooms on the right hand side of the path as you walk up towards the cliff, and the much better bungalows on the left hand side.
The grotty old rooms have a separate living room with sofa, and a small kitchen, but the extra facilities do not make up for the poor condition of the rooms. There are three beds per bedroom, each of which is so worn out and saggy that it looks like it’s been reclaimed from a brothel.
The newer air conditioned rooms, on the other hand, feel more inviting. Some thought went into the décor and they are in reasonable condition. One wall is made of antique bricks and complements the reasonably good quality wooden furniture room perfectly.
