This hotel offers cheap (by Thai standards) beachfront bungalows on Tubkaek beach in Klong Muang district, 15 miunutes drive from Ao Nang. Some people will like Klong Muang, others will loath it, click here for more on Klong Muang.
Your first impression when arriving at Tubkaek Sunset, which nothing will later dispel, is of a 2 to 3-star resort in a 5-star location,. This is not to say that the resort lacks charm, because it has tons. You've heard it from your estate agent and now you're hearing it from your travel agent : Location, location, location !
This is, by far, the least expensive resort on Tubkaek Beach, and yet it has the largest stretch of beachfront property, 160 glorious metres to be precise.
In early 2011 the film director and stars of the Hollywood movie “The Hangover II”, who where were staying at the nearby, super-exclusive 6-star Phulay Bay hotel, chose to shoot several scenes for the movie on Tubkaek Sunset's impressive stretch of beach, rather than on the beach of their 6 star resort.
Besides daily outdoor beachside dining facilities, this resort offers the possibility of having a private dinner on the beach, literally inches away from the water's edge. We would rate the crew at Sunset as amongst the most likeable we have met, anywhere. Overall, this resort offers tremendous value for money and one will be hard-pressed to find absolute beachfront accomodation anywhere else on the Andaman Coast at such low prices. The magnificent sunsets that are an almost nightly occurence here in high season further multiply the magic of staying right on the beachfront. The resort has a pool, a children's pool, a nice spa and massage centre and an open-air beachfront restaurant.
Accommodation
Duplex Jacuzzi Villa
These are large, 2-storey villas boasting 2 expansive bathrooms plus an outdoor shower, TV and DVD both upstairs and downstairs, free wifi and a desktop computer with internet access. These are recommended for families of up to 5 people. Parents can watch their children running around in the large garden in front of the villa. The beach begins only a few metres further. Children can watch the TV or play on the computer downstairs without disturbing mum and dad upstairs, who might just get the chance to catch up on a bit of passion. It's a shame these units are so overpriced, as they are OK.
Cottages
These Cottages, which are older structures, are clean and reasonably well maintained. They won't “wow” anybody. We think of them as being merely sleeping quarters - you'll be spending your days on a hammock on the beach rather than in the cottage.
They are divided into three types, which differ only in location. These are the Beachfront Cottages (front row), the Seaview Cottages (2nd & 3rd rows) and the Garden View Cottages (4th row).
Beachfront Cottage
These modest cottages have 1 of the best locations on the entire Andaman Coast. On their small terrace there is an equally small camping table which is good for a drink, but for a comfortable place to sit or lounge, you have to walk to the beach, a 10-second walk away.
Seaview Cottage
The 2nd row has a better view than the 3rd, at the same price.
Garden View Cottage
These are the only ones facing inland. We recommend going for a Seaview Cottage because they are not significantly more expensive.
