Destination
Koh Lipe is a small Thai island in the Andaman Sea, near the Malaysian border. It is justifiably well-loved for its stunning white beaches, crystal clear water, and fun night-life. Click here for more on Koh Lipe.

Diving around Koh Lipe
 |
The most noticeable thing about the diving around Lipe is that there are not many other divers around. In marked contrast to other dive destinations in Thailand, it is not uncommon for a group to have a dive site all to themselves. The corals are, if not the best in Thailand, then very close to being so. The fish are mainly small, colourfull reef fish. The visibility is excellent in this incredibly clear water. Drift diving is a Lipe speciality. |
Lipe is the last frontier of diving in Thailand - not the next frontier, as its the only place left which has not been extensively dived and in which you are sure to avoid crowds. While the large pelagics are only seldom visitors here, Lipe offers the diver a unique experience in Thailand these days - to dive without crowds of other divers around. |

We have chosen to work with the dive operator Lotus Diving, due to their excellent kit, service levels and competitive prices. They are currently the only dive operator on Lipe using big 15 litre tanks. |
All diving is from a longtail boat - there is really no need for a big, expensive boat here, as all the dive sites are close to koh Lipe. The maximum number of customers on the boat is 8, and the maximum number of customers per divemaster is 4. Mixed groups of divers and snorkellers are not a problem. It costs only THB 700 each for snorkellers to come along !
Using longtail boats keeps the prices down, making Lipe an economical place to dive. |

Almost all the diving around Lipe is fine for PADI Open water certified divers. Advanced PADI vertification is only needed for the wreck and for 8 Mile Rock, though some of the better sights at Koh Sa Rang are deeper than PADI Open Water divers should go. |
This wealth of shallow sites makes Lipe one of the best places in Thailand to learn to dive. Koh Tao is the cheapest, but is very crowded. Ao Nang has more amenities, buty can't match the crystal clear waters around Lipe. |
