Holiday Resort, Koh Yao Noi - Independant Review
Stop press 2011 - things appear to be improving considerably at this resort, with new air-cons, and also functional fridges and TVs in all rooms. Right now, we can't actively recommend this resort, as we haven't yet been along to check out the place since its recent renovation, so we don't know if the report we've heard about its recent improvement is correct. If you are interested in booking this resort then please contact us and one of us will hop on a boat and go check the place out.
Stop press 2009 - we can no longer recommend this resort. During the 2008/2009 high season there were numerous complaints about clanking air-con units, wheezing fridges and dysfunctional TV’s. If you need a budget air-con room and the two Suntisook air-con rooms are full, then contact us and we’ll try and find a cheaper air-con room for you. Several resorts on the island have told us that they intend to put air-con units into some of their bungalows for the 2009/2010 high season, though whether this happens remains to be seen.
This uninspiring budget resort is included on this website for one reason alone – it is one of only two more affordable resorts on the island that offer air-conditioning. The other budget resort which has air-con rooms is the better Suntisook Resort. Most visitors holidaying in the cooler months from December to March don’t need air-con, giving them no good reason to stay at the tacky Holiday Resort.
When the weather gets hotter from April onwards, though, some visitors will feel they can not do without air-con, and for such people we recommend the Holiday Resort, if the Suntisook air-con rooms are full. The Holiday Resort is situated across a quiet road from a reasonable swimming beach and benefits from superb views over Phang Nga Bay and from refreshing sea-breezes. The clean restaurant serves a reasonable breakfast and passable lunch snacks such as club sandwiches, but guest are advised to dine out.
Most of the bungalows have great views across the bay from their spacious balconies. The only problem (and it’s a big one) with this resort is the interior of the rooms. Whilst the rooms are clean and well-equipped, they are are also old-fashioned, tatty and in need of refurbishment. They do however, offer good value for money and a comfortable base for those travelers who can overlook the dated furniture and scruffy interiors.
