Koh Jum Lodge, Koh Jum

Independant Review

The low-key, comfortable and clean Koh Jum Lodge Resort is the island’s most up-market establishment by a mile, has beautifully rustic bungalows and a good pool, and enjoys a pristine and secluded location.

This eco-lodge oozes style: picture lots of hard woods and bamboo, gauzy mosquito netting, manicured grounds and a hammock-strewn curve of white sand out front – pure bliss.

Visitor testimonial: “truly a beautiful place with an atmosphere and ambiance that just can't be found anywhere else”.

Koh Jum Lodge has sixteen spacious wooden cottages designed in the traditional Thai style and set in a coconut palm plantation with a tropical garden setting.

All the cottages are located near the beach, facing Phi Phi Island to the West, and all benefit from sunset and sea views.

The resort is located on Golden Pearl beach, which is rocky in places. Luckily for Koh Jum Lodge residents, however, there is a channel through these rocks directly in front of the resort, so visitors are assured great swimming, weather permitting.

It is hard to find fault with this resort – even the food in the panoramic beach-front restaurant gets rave reviews from www.tripadvisor.com contributors, no doubt due to the influence of the French co-owner Jean-Michel Limandas.

This resort offers great family accommodation: “with a loft for the kids, a chaise lounge and a king size bed with perfect pillows; it took the promise of a fine meal to entice us out”. In the tropical garden, there are “salas” for afternoon naps and traditional massages, and a “pétanque” and volley ball area.

Guest testimonial: “There are so many fantastic, often little, but significant touches of luxury to a stay at Koh Jum Lodge resort. Things like the delicious welcome drink, fresh flowers in the bowls to rinse feet before entering the lodge, and the super comfortable hammocks.

The restaurant is simply superb, as is the way Jean talked us through the menu, describing what was fresh each evening and demonstrating his passion for food and entertaining.

The fish starters (we had barracuda carpaccio and mackerel Japanese style) were especially tasty and the tom yum soup that I had one evening was my best meal while in Thailand.

We also especially enjoyed the unscheduled daily excitements like when we saw one of the staff climbing a coconut tree to harvest it, so the coconuts didn't fall on anybody’s head. We were then offered a coconut straight off the tree to go with our breakfast, delicious!”
