Takolaburi Resort, Khao Lak

Independant Review

The communal areas of this tastefully designed and expensively crafted resort are formed of traditionally-roofed pavilions. They appear to float in a large pond, out of which palms soar and antique-looking pots contribute colourful floral displays.

The spaciousness of the shared areas of the resort contrasts with the claustrophobia of the accommodation units, which have been crammed in so densely that none receive enough light. This lack of space, combined with the high prices charged, make this a resort to avoid.

Family Pavilion
These units consist of a two-story building which contains a children’s bedroom above the master bedroom. There is no door between the two, so parents can not be guaranteed any private moments. Small children will not be able to manage the spiral staircase up to the dark and gloomy upstairs bedroom. There is a further single-story building, which houses a living room and a large TV and DVD.

Honeymoon Pavilion
These villas are expensively furnished and decorated, but little light penetrates through the small bedroom windows, making them dark and gloomy. The separate living pavilion is somewhat starkly decorated and the private plunge pool area is rather grotty, even though the resort is only a few years old.
