Orchid Resort, Khao Lak
Independant Review
 |
This impressive resort is separated from the beach by a road, but it is a very small one that ends in a dead-end at one end of the resort - quite what purpose this lane serves is a mystery, as it doesn’t go anywhere. |
It is quite a distance from Khao Lak, which is a ten-minute drive away, and many people prefer a resort closer to town. This resort’s distance from the town, however, mean that its prices are lower than the resorts nearer the town centre. |

 |
The resort has huge palm-studded gardens for children to run around in, and two pools to play in.
|
In order to cater to the needs of couples, one of these pools is deep and is further away from the main accommodation block, so parents usually insist on smaller children using the larger pool nearer the main accommodation block.
|
 |
 |
This means that the smaller, deeper pool remains relatively quiet even in peak season, and is not inundated with noisy little ones. |

Accoomodation
Orchid Jacuzzi Suite
These suites are situated next to the quiet, deep pool and are intended for couples. The ground-floor suites have pool access, whilst the 1st and 2nd floor suites have more privacy and better views. Superlatively equipped, each suite has an open-air Jacuzzi and a shaded day-bed on the terrace. Inside, there are two huge flat-screen TV’s only 12 feet apart, one in front of the over-sized bed and the other in front of the sofa and 2 armchairs.
This seems rather over the top, but doesn’t look out of place, as the rooms are so huge. Because they are also well furnished they don’t look empty, as is often the case with larger hotel rooms. Immaculate throughout, the bathrooms are as tastefully decorated as are the bedrooms. These rooms are a good option for honeymooners. For one of the most luxurious family options in Khao Lak, also book an adjacent Orchid Deluxe Room.
Orchid Family Suite
These tastefully decorated, immaculate and vast suites are in the resort’s new building. They each have a three-seater sofa and two armchairs, are good value for money and are one of Khao Lak’s best mid-range family choices.
Orchid Deluxe Room
These large and elegantly appointed rooms have day-beds and are big enough to put an extra bed in, so are a good bet for families with young children.

Deluxe Room and Orchid Deluxe Room
There are 'Deluxe' rooms in the resort’s older ‘Main Wing’ and ‘Orchid Deluxe' rooms in the newer ‘Orchid Wing’. Predictably, the newer Orchid building has rooms that are in better condition, although they do not have the partial sea-views that the old Main building’s Deluxe rooms have. The rooms are all fairly well appointed, even though the furniture is inexpensive and the TVs are small. They are reasonably good value for money.
Premier Deluxe Rooms
These are the same size as the Deluxe rooms in the Main Building, with a guaranteed good sea view and better furnishings. |
