Bang Tong Bay Resort, Khao Lak

Independant Review

This affordable resort has an open, uncrowded feel to it and is a good choice for both families and couples. The broad sandy beach is good for swimming, but parents of smaller children will have to be careful that they don’t fall into the canal that bisects the resort.

The large and attractive pool has enough loungers and the de riguer underwater stools next to the pool bar. The beachfront restaurant is an atmospheric place to eat a sunset dinner.

Accommodation

‘Family’ room
These are not just two connecting rooms, but purpose-built family suites. Each has a large double room and a large twin room, with an extra bed and an extra cot possible. The bedrooms share an enormous bathroom and each have a DVD player and TV. The only downside with these rooms is that their windows are fronted by vegetation that blocks out the light and makes them a bit dark. Most families, however, will spend most of their days out doors, so this is not a significant drawback. Teenagers will enjoy watching DVD’s and playing on their games computers, and they won’t care about the lack of natural light. The décor in the family rooms is better then in the ‘Standard’ rooms and the prices are reasonable, making these family rooms the best mid-range family accommodation option in Khao Lak.

‘Standard’ room
The upstairs rooms have a sea-view, but only a postage-stamp sized one, so it isn’t really worth bothering getting an upstairs room. These rooms are clean and well equipped and, whilst the décor is uninspiring, it won’t offend anybody.

Bungalows
The bungalows are older than the ‘Standard’ and ‘Family’ rooms, and look it. The bungalows have open air showers, but not very nice ones. Their bathrooms are better, but the overall impression these bungalows leave is of uninspiring décor and fading charm. The bungalows further from the beach have TVs, whilst the ones nearer to the beach do not.
