Khao Lak Seaview Resort

Independant Review

The imposing lobby of this resort sets a high-brow tone which nothing in this impressive 5 year-old hotel subsequently lets down. The large resort consists of two wings, the ‘Beach Wing’ and the ‘Lagoon Wing’, which are separated by a quiet lane.

The ‘Beach’ wing is built atop a koi carp pool which wends its way through the wing, and which is stocked with a vast number of the orange and white fish. Children will enjoy feeding the fish, maybe hoping that the grand-daddy carps don’t manage to muscle all of their progeny out of the way when the bread hits the water. Manicured gardens centre around a tastefully designed pool fronting the beach, which is good for swimming and also for a stroll. The pool has two bars, one with underwater bar stools, and the other with above-water stools for drier drinkers.

The ‘Lagoon’ wing is centred around a huge pool surrounded by a herd of ambling elephants – thankfully, for the sake of hygiene, made of stone. The children’s pool has short and long water slides, whilst the adults’ pool sports the standard underwater bar stools. The ‘Lagoon’ wing, which has tennis courts, is not too densely populated with accommodation units, resulting in a light and airy atmosphere in the relatively few rooms present.

Lagoon Wing – Royal Deluxe Villa
These units are one of the best up-scale family accommodation choices in Khao Lak. Two huge connecting rooms each has a balcony, TV, WC and shower. The children’s room has a small kitchen and microwave for heating up baby’s bottles. A comfortable chaise longue sofa gives each bedroom a comfortable reading spot, and each has a balcony with a lovely view of a koi carp pond and jungle foliage, set against a mountain backdrop. Even small children will be able to hop over or squeeze through the balcony fence, and take the few steps to the koi carp pond, where they will have endless fun feeding the well-fed-looking fish there.

Lagoon Wing - Royal Villa
These are superlatively appointed, but are near to the main swimming pool, so are disturbed by small children shrieking with laughter. They have private plunge pools, but they are not at all private.

Beach Wing - Royal Pool Villas and Deluxe Pool Villas
These superbly appointed and elegantly decorated villas each have a private plunge pool and are suitable for couples (with maybe an extra bed for a young child or baby) but are not suitable for families.

For couples, the plunge pools are not private, so are not as good a choice as the Pool Residences at the Sarojin.

Beach Wing - Deluxe Room
The ground and first floor roooms have no significant seaview, but the 2nd floor rooms do. Wooden floors and complementing pastel hues make these very tastefully decorated rooms. The two queen-sized beds make these rooms an option for families, but not one that will give parents any moments of privacy. For families with older children, better options exist in Khao Lak.
