The Cliff Resort, Ao Nang
Introduction
This established boutique-style resort is one of Ao Nang’s most popular, mainly due to its impeccably-maintained grounds, tasteful bungalows and atmospheric pool setting.
 |
The view from the smallish pool, of the karst ramparts that separate Ao Nang from Railay, is truly spectacular, but the pool decking is showing signs of wear and as of May 2009 could use a new coat of varnish. |
If you expect immaculate woodwork everywhere, you are advised to stay elsewhere. This up-market and slightly rustic hideaway is 5 years old and the rooms are showing very small signs of wear.
 |
Whilst they are spotlessly clean, they cannot be described as in pristine or immaculate condition. They are however, in very good condition, bar a little woodwork varnish, and are tastefully decorated, if on the small side. |
In all the rooms the decor is extremely tasteful and elegant. The large outdoor bathrooms, with their huge rainfall showerheads and copper vessel sinks decorated by beautiful vegetation, are particularly appealing. Bring bug spray, because there are mosquitoes aplenty here. The well air-conditioned bungalows come with adorable mosquito nets, which add to their romantic atmosphere but can’t guarantee complete immunity from being bitten. Most guests get bitten on the outdoor toilet - whilst many guests will feel it’s worth a few bites to stay at such a lovely place, others won’t.
 |
The lobby area looks at first uninviting, until the visitor notices the tasteful artwork. The hotel is only 50 metres from the road. As the visitor enters the hotel, however, the sound of tinkling water features replaces that of motor vehicles, and the breath-taking mountain view from the pool is revealed. |
Apart from the pool, the hotel has limited facilities, which isn’t really a problem, as it is well situated to take advantage of all the facilities on offer in Ao Nang. The breakfast is well-presented and is delivered directly to the guests rooms’, a great touch which many visitors really like.
 |
Less popular is the bread served with breakfast – If you book on this website then, in addition to quoting a hopefully unbeatable price, we will deliver a loaf of top-quality brown or granary bread to you on arrival, and ask the staff to toast it for you for breakfast. |
The fact that the hotel doesn’t have a restaurant big enough to accommodate all of its guests is not important, as most guests eat lunch and dinner out, click here for a map.
 |
The resort is located 600 metres from the beachfront and amenities, which may not suit all visitors, but a tuk tuk ride from or to the beach is loads of fun and costs only THB 30 per person. It is not the best choice for families, as the rooms are small and there is not much room for children to run around. |
Accommodation
‘Standard’
The ‘Standard’ 35 sqm semi-detached bungalows are on the small side, but well presented and maintained. They have an outside toilet, a feature some guests like, but others will not, particularly those very sensitive to mosquitoes. The ones that face away from the road and are further away from it aren’t unduly affected by traffic noise from the road, but the rooms nearer the road might for some guests seem a bit noisy – whilst being far from spoiled by traffic noise, they are certainly not 100% silent and peaceful either. Contact us for a room to suit your exact requirements, we live here in Ao Nang and know the hotel intimately.
‘Siwichai’
The single ‘Siwichai’ 80 sqm bungalow has a bathtub big enough for 4 people, is surrounded by a koi carp pond, and is very well appointed, with a day-sofa and a huge bed.
