Royal Nakara Guest House
Hotel
An upscale back-packers guest-house, this place is also a good economy hotel for families, though there is nowhere for the children to run around. The hotel is built on a hillside, with the lobby and restaurant terrace at the top level. Click here for a map. The accommodation is on the same floor, and on the floors below. The stairs would be impossible to manage for an unassisted small child. The pool (2 floors down) is miniscule and isn’t safe for unaccompanied small children, as one end is an infinity edge which is next to a large drop. It is good enough for a quick splash round and cool-down, and for carefully supervised tiny tots totally adequate, but too small for teens to enjoy. The sea-view from some of the rooms is a distant one, and will not wow you.
The hotel is only 1 year old, so the rooms are in good condition - no-frills accommodation with luke-warm showers and uninspiring décor, but clean and comfortable enough for most people. Only the top-floor rooms have balconies on which it is possible to sun-bathe, as the rest of the rooms’ balconies are too small for sun-beds. It’s a hotel where adults will enjoy sitting on the comfortable, flower-laden, shaded, breezy terrace with a book, but families will have to spend their days elsewhere. Walking to the beach or to the beach-front restaurants might be a problem for some families, as they are 800m away, but a ride in a tuk-tuk costs very little and is easily and speedily arranged by the reception staff.
Breakfast is simple yet satisfactory, except for the bread. If you book this resort through us, we’ll deliver a complimentary loaf of quality bread to you on arrival, then hand it to the staff and ask them to serve that instead of the horrible sweet stuff that masquerades as bread in lower-budget resorts in Thailand. The restaurant can dish up decent enough light lunches, but it’s best to eat dinner out.
This is a small and new hotel, so it’s a good idea to carry the hotel’s card around with you in your pocket, so that you can show it to tuk-tuk drivers when you need a ride back to the hotel. The staff have a reputation for extreme friendliness and politeness, which in such a friendly country as Thailand is a high accolade indeed.
