Ao Nang Buri, Ao Nang

Introduction

The Ao Nang Buri is one of Ao Nang’s most popular hotels and one of the first to get fully booked every high season, as the hotel has established a reputation as one of the best mid-range hotels in Ao Nang. It is nothing fancy and a bit aging, but there really is very little to complain about – and an awful lot to enjoy. Click here for a map.

The sea-view rooms are particularly beautiful, as the many satisfied guests the hotel has had over the years can and have attested on websites such as www.tripadvisor.com. Whilst the hotel is almost 10 years ago, it doesn’t look its age (this travel writer only wishes he could say the same) – like a well-pampered person, it has aged well. Not only the rooms themselves but the overall infrastructure is in good condition.

The hotel is not on the main Ao Nang beach, which can get noisy from the numerous restaurants, bars and traders, but on the nearby and quiter Hat Nopparat Thara beach. This beach is excellent for children, as it is very shallow and you can walk out for miles at low tide. The locals like to use this beach at the weekends but it is quiet during the week.

It takes about 10mins to walk to and from Ao Nang beach, or the guest can take a tuk tuk from the tuk tuk station directly opposite the resort, from which tuk tuks are available until 3am, and at a moment’s notice. Just across the road from the Ao Nang Buri is Ao Nang’s only late-night dance club, the Luna Bar, which stays open until 2am. Whilst the music can not be heard from within the rooms, the hotel is close enough to mean that revelers can get back to the hotel easily and safely late at night, making this hotel a good choice for families with older children who want to stay out later than their parents.

Restaurant

Whilst breakfast is OK and includes good bread and a freshly-cooked egg station, the restaurant is rather average – satisfactory for simple Western fare such as a club sandwich by the pool, but for dinner most guests eat out. Wang Sai Seafood is one of Ao Nang’s top two Thai restaurants and is only 200 metres away.

Accommodation

The hotel’s ground floor rooms are vulnerable to theft, as the sliding doors which lead to the terrace have a very primitive ‘lock’ that can be easily picked. If staying in one of these rooms then the guest is advised to be particularly careful, when going out, to stash cash and valuables in the safe provided. If this precaution is taken then the ground floor rooms become a good choice, as they offer direct pool access, by hopping over the terrace rail and straight into the pool.

The ‘Superior’ rooms have views over the sea or pool, but some of the sea-views are postage-stamp sized and really not worth bothering with. The ‘Deluxe’ and ‘Grand Deluxe’ rooms have better sea-views, and some of the rooms aren’t too high up in the 3-storey hotel. Contact us and we’ll pop round there and check out the best room for your dates and requirements.
