Koh Haa
Koh Haa is a small group of islands almost directly
West of Koh Lanta, about 2hrs out of Ao Nang by speedboat. The islands
are separated by channels over 50m deep and the highlight of diving
here is a series of caves and caverns on the largest island of Koh Haa
Yai. Visibility here is normally exceptional at 25m + and so is the
marine life with frequent sightings of Whale Sharks, Octopi, Dolphins
and Blue Marlin. Koh Haa also has sheltered, scenic dives for the beginner
with an abundance of fish life and hard and soft corals, coupled together
with minimum current. The craggy surfaces of these small pinnacles host
various moray eels. There are many sea anemones, mainly magnificent
and gigantic; there is an equally impressive number of tenant anemonefish.
If you look closely at the anemone crabs and translucent shrimps. This
is also a good site for spotting colourful mantis shrimps in their burrows
in the coral substrate. Depths range from 5-30m. Finish off your diving
with an optional deep water solo climb to the top of the island, then
jump in. Two large rocks in a depth of 9m are covered in soft corals,
with oysters clinging to the rocky surface and also to sea whip corals.
Suitability: All levels of diver
Highlights: Whale Sharks, Octopi, huge caverns that you can surface
in and much more.
