| Andaman Resort, Koh Lipe Independent Review Introduction

                          | | This resort occupies a huge stretch of prime beachfront on Sunrise Beach, and it’s a pity it doesn’t make better use of its great location. The bamboo bungalows furthest from the restaurant are a reasonable choice, when better places are full. A better, similarly-priced choice than this resort is the Moonlight. |
                          | The restaurant, bar and reception area is one of the concrete structures that blot the landscape on this lovely island. | |
                          | | The resort has no relaxation area, and was built on an all-expenses-spared budget, giving it a Spartan, utilitarian feel. |    AccommodationConcrete BungalowsThese are all located near the busy and unattractive restaurant area, making them somewhat noisy place to stay. While relatively clean inside, they are also most unattractively constructed, and painted and roofed in unpleasantly lurid shades of blue. Bamboo BungalowsThe mattresses in these bungalows are thin and old, so not a good idea for thin or old people to lie on. Most youngsters, or those with their own extra padding, however, will find them acceptable. The bathrooms are quite clean, the mosquito nets above the beds are in good condition and there are a pair of plastic loungers on every terrace. So, these aren’t a bad choice for budget backpackers, who are recommended to take a bungalow as far as possible from the restaurant area. The resort has such a wide beach frontage that it is possible to get a unit which is spared the sight and noise of the restaurant area, and benefits from a glorious beachfront position, with casuarinas trees shading a broad stretch of sand between the bungalows and the lovely aquamarine hues of the Andaman, and with Koh Adang, a kilometer away, forming a dramatic backdrop. The beach here doesn’t suffer from much longtail boat noise, and is perfect for swimming – really keen swimmers can join the annual competition to swim across to Koh Adang.   PricesBamboo Bungalow – THB 800Concrete Bungalow – from THB 1200
How To Book For Westerners, reliably booking this resort in advance is a problem, as the staff don’t speak much English and may ‘forget’ about your booking - there is no way for you to pay a deposit and they don’t know for sure you will turn up, so it should not be too surprising if they give your room to someone else. You can try ringing (+66) 846865680, but your best option is to just turn up as early as possible in the day, and hope for the best. Andaman Sky, Co., Ltd, 23/8 Moo 2, Ao Nang, Thailand    |
