| HealthMost tropical diseases can be avoided with due care and attention. To avoid rabies, don’t pet monkeys or dogs, and if particularly worried then carry some stones in your pocket to deter the advances of a possibly infected animal. You are very unlikely to contract Malaria in Thailand, unless you venture deep into the jungle on the borders with Burma, Laos or Cambodia. Dengue fever, for which there is no prophylactic injection, is a growing problem in Thailand but is only contracted in densely-populated, dirty areas. If you avoid overpopulated and polluted destinations such as Koh Phi Phi, Koh Lipe and the Railay Peninsula’s Tonsai beach, you are very unlikely to catch dengue fever.
